different styles

I did not write about Nancy performance last Monday. She danced a very intense program, I enjoyed especially her varnam, both technique (precise, powerful and gracious)  and expression, so sensitive. Her guru Selvam played nattuvangam (small cymbals to give feet rythms to the dancer) fixing his eyes on her, with so much kind and proud attention, always smiling (as myself by the way). His style is very "blossoming", many various adavus (not only the "traditional" basic steps) poses like statues, using all angles in the space and with arms, he seems that alapdma is his very favorite mudra (hand like an open lotus flower). Nancy was exhausted after her program, claiming she should stop smoking. I think this is a good resolution and I never understand how she can have such stamina (energy) while smoking, she's amazing.
Yesterday, I attend a program by duet from Canada (Hari Krishnan and Srividya Natarajan) "Fallen Rain". It was closed to our flat, on beach road, beautiful place named now "Spaces" where late Chandraleka used to practise. Nice flower garlands, lights, interesting dance, I would not say my favorite style (they claim to be the only one to get the "true" tradition of devadasi). Murielle and I noticed a joyfull complicity, very uncommon use of space (that we would like to remember maybe for future performance by our own), a beautiful female dancer. We also discover that both of us, we don't like hands (dola) in one "thei yat thei yi", we do the same in Sarojam style as well (I will explain to dancers when I come back).
This evening I did not go to any performance, after a morning class with Manjari this morning, rush for food shopping and then Sangeeta's school children Christmas party (where Murielle performed kavade chindru, I try to make a rond with "j'aime la galette", Sangeeta organized a "African" dance class and then involved us in "Ganapathi and the moon" improvisation) and then again Lavanya class, keep on working on tillana. My body needs a break for today!
